Debut album from the quartet from Nashville, Tennessee, originally released last year on the St. Louis-based First Flight label but until now unavailable outside of their homeland.

Emery Reel proudly employ the tried & tested quiet/loud dynamic, with pensive moments turning into a gigantic wall of sound - and they also display a rare ability to utilise subtleties that give their work distinguishing features and inject much-needed freshness into an over-populated musical field. The real beauty herein lies with the mesmerizing, simplistic and beautiful arrangements - often subdued and understated, yet complexed and full of emotion, with the music going through movements in the same manner as classical compositions.

While the obvious parallels (Mogwai/GY!BE/Explosions in the Sky/Tortoise/Scenic) undeniably apply, this is powerful, accomplished body of work that belies their position as debutants. In short, "For and Acted..." establishes Emery Reel amongst the finest exponents in a prestigious field, and is as close to perfect a post-rock album as you'll find.
